The Department of History in the Faculty of Arts at the University of
Calgary invites applications and nominations for a Canada Research Chair -
Tier II position in the History of Energy. The successful applicant will
be appointed at the assistant or associate professor level. He or she will
join a department of twenty-five faculty members and more than fifty
graduate students who work on diverse areas of history (hist.ucalgary.ca).
Calgary is the centre of the Canadian energy industry, and the research
area of Energy and Environment has long been one of the University of
Calgary's institutional research development priorities. Highly promising
scholars who work on the business, cultural, environmental, policy,
political, social, and technological aspects of the History of Energy in
all areas of the world will be considered. The Department of History is
particularly interested in candidates who will be able to take advantage
of the numerous resources on the History of Energy available at the
University of Calgary and in Western Canada more generally.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding research record and the
demonstrated ability to build undergraduate and graduate teaching areas in
the History of Energy. He or she will develop interdisciplinary research
and teaching collaborations as appropriate with colleagues in other units
on campus who work on related issues. These include the Arctic Institute
of North America; the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies; the
Haskayne School of Business; the Institute for Sustainable Energy,
Environment and Economy; and the School of Public Policy.

Applicants should submit a letter of application detailing their research
and teaching interests, as well as their vision for the Canada Research
Chair - Tier II in the History of Energy, a curriculum vitae, electronic
copies of their written work including the doctoral dissertation, and
three letters of reference. Applications will be accepted until the
position is filled. Review of the applications will begin on January 21,
2013.
