Dr. Yves Gingras

Yves Gingras is Canada Research Chair in the History and Sociology of Science, Université du Québec à Montréal and one of the founding members and former Director (2001-2005) of UQAM's Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur la science et la technologie, one of Canada's leading centres for science and technology research. He is also co-founder and scientific Director of the Observatoire des sciences et des technologies (OST), a unique Canadian organisation devoted to the quantitative study of science and technology. His research program covers the formation of disciplines and the transformation of universities. He has published extensively on the History of science in Quebec, as well as in sociology of science and higher education. He is the author of many books among which Physics and the Rise of Scientific Research in Canada (McGIll-Queen's University Press, 1991), Pour l'avancement des sciences. Histoire de l'ACFAS, 1923-1993 (Boréal, 1994), Éloge de l'homo techno-logicus (Fides, 2005) and co-editor of "Les transformations des universités du XIIIe au XXIe siècle" (PUQ, 2006).

Well-known in the media, since 1996, Dr. Gingras has had a monthly Science and Technology Studies column on Radio-Canada. He has a monthly chronicle on the show "les années lumière" on Radio-Canada and his chronicles are accessible on his web site (www.chss.uqam.ca)
